The yearling year is when our work with the horses really starts. Leading and standing quitely are expected. Saddles, bridles and other tack are introduced while standing,
leading and working in the round pen. Work with long reigns is very important and begins in the round pens to develop great head sets and an awareness of
the bit. Care is taken to not damage legs or knees while working in the round pen, but basic long reign work is important and can take
place at a slow pace. The walker is introduced which helps improve discipline and gives exercise with saddles and bridles. At 20 to 24 months of age a rider is
added for short periods of time. The first few rides include a rider on the back for only a few minutes. Subsequent rides are only a few minutes, taking place in
small pens or the round pen. Most horses are ridden in the open pasture for very short periods after 10 to 12 rides and reaching at least 2 years of age.. Virtually all horses are ridden without any
trauma to the horse or rider. Every effort is made to eliminate bucking during the training process.
